I love this time of year because it’s around about the Scottish Book Trust’s Book Week Scotland that I’m usually able to visit some primary schools and meet their fab kids – definitely one of the best things about writing children’s books!
I have two visits lined up for November this year – the fabulous Knightsridge Primary School in Livingston have invited me to join their Big Bedtime Read which encourages families and children to share a story at bedtime. This of course promotes a love for reading and books in young children and helps bolster their literacy skills from an early age. I’m super excited about this event, because I am to attend in my pyjamas – unicorn themed of course – and I have the privilege of sharing my bedtime stories to Primary One in their assembly hall while we all pretend we are ‘ready for bed’ – nothing like a bit of imaginative play on Wednesday night!
Don’t tell the kids yet, but there may be some fluffy, cuddly friends joining me with their blankets ready for bed too…!
Later in the month I’ll also be visiting Sciennes Primary School in Edinburgh which is over 100 years old and in a rather spectacular building just over from the Meadows. At Sciennes I’ll be meeting their Primary One kids as well, and finding out from them all about where they might imagine Ruan the Little Red Squirrel could end up on his next adventure.
Lots of fun in store for me, Ruan and Drew the Kilted Coo! My newest creation, The Unicorn in the Castle, will also be having its debut soon…!
