About Me

Hello, I’m Rachel.

I am a children’s author – with a full-time job on the side.

I was born and raised in Scotland and have worked in the world of Scottish books and publishing for more than ten years. I started as a bookseller in my local branch of Waterstones while studying, and after graduating, I began working for a Scottish interest publisher and wholesaler that caters for the visitor and heritage market in Scotland. After 10 years, I took a career break and worked as Head Guide at one of Scotland’s leading historical attractions, sharing my passion for Scotland and our history with thousands of visitors from far and wide.

I returned to publishing and now work as the buyer for the business, which means I spend a lot of my time perusing wonderful new books to add to the range. I also look after submissions and publishing, and a couple of handfuls of other bits and pieces

When I’m not at work, I of course enjoy writing and there’s not been time in the last few years that I don’t have a project on the go. When I can, I enjoy visiting schools and nurseries to share my stories – find out more about this on my Author Visits page.

I live in Central Scotland with my husband and our little white pup, frequent star of my Instagram feed.

I post updates about Ruan the Little Red Squirrel, The Kilted Coo, The Unicorn in the Castle, author events and signings, future projects, general musings about the great outdoors of Scotland and the escapades of my super-cute pup on here, so I hope you enjoy my books and reading my blog.
